My husband will undergo open heart surgery soon. It’s being scheduled for sometime over the next week. While I am optimistic about his ability to recover and thrive, I would appreciate all the prayer warriors out there to say one for him. For us. For our family. Thank you!

I have a lot of intuition and I think your husband will be fine - I'd like you to keep this thought in your (and his) head as it sets up the base case scenarios. As a natural worrier and anxiety ridden person, I understand this kind of thinking all too well, but I find the things that throw us for a loop, that cause real problems, are not the things we know about but unexpected things. I think your husband may be difficult to keep quiet afterwards for recovery but may be the type to become restless and impatient and want to get back to "normal" life perhaps too quickly. He'd have to learn to be patient. But I think he'll be fine with the surgery.

What doesn't kill us, makes us stronger. Use anger as a tool and mercy as a balm.

Dear lady, I sure hope that all goes well with your hubby.

My mother was a surgical nurse and part of a pioneering open-heart surgery team back in the late 70s and 80s. This team of doctors and nurses started up departments in one hospital after another. They were very successful, with extremely rare failures. Now, that was over 40 years ago. I'm quite certain that these days it's all routine... just another day at the office.

So, while I'm sure you're a bit scared and worried, I'd say that his chances of success are extremely high. Breathe easy.

Father, please help this surgery to go smoothly. Give doctors skill and wisdom. In your mercy, cause him to handle to surgery and recover well. We ask you to give him any years to live and love his wife. Bless them both during recovery and let this be another victory you bless them with. Please do this based on Jesus love for us and His work on our behalf. Amen.

Oh, holy shit. You will for sure be in my thoughts. Your confidence is almost certainly not misplaced, but I understand why you'd be nervous about this. I'm genuinely wishing you the best.

Where am I going... and why am I in this handbasket?

Thank you all so much.

Bondjanebond,

You do have very strong intuition. This is going to be our exact challenge. He is not one to ever be still, he is always working or tinkering around in his shop working in various projects. The idleness is going to be hard for him. This is his busiest season for his business and he is a big part of the operations. We will be fine financially he just likes challenging himself to be more and more successful. And to hit records, it’s a big part of his mental rewards in life.

But I do see there could be benefits to slowing down for a bit. I hope he can find those and use them to better his life. Maybe find better life balance. This is going to be as much of a mental journey as a physical one.

Hikingout - God bless you both! But I think he's going to be fine physically....you know what the problem is going to be. But as I've been saying recently to several...we can turn a difficult situation into an opportunity...maybe this is a good time for him to try less strenuous things for a while and learn about the Terrible Art of Relaxation! My husband is a whirlwind and it's hard to get him to sit down for 10 minutes until he just falls over from being tired. Some people fear being alone with their thoughts too. It might be a good time either to catch up on reading or making a new hobby, a gentle one like art or engraving. Hopefully something he could have fun with that doesn't make him feel restricted or confined....or not the Boss of Me! Good luck and let us know how you both do!

Hikingout

I've been a lurker for years, joined a year or so ago, and posted precisely one time previously. I'm not easily moved to contribute, not even my own story.

But in my years of reading here the contributions that have stood out as most insightful, most wise, most nuanced and showing the most humility have been yours. And the gap to #2 isn't even close.

I'd like to believe in karma, or that good deeds, or atonement for bad, or a righteous gentle soul led to peace and good fortune. In such a world you would surely receive favour. But I'm afraid out world is a little more random.

I'm not a religious person, so I won't make an offer of prayer that would be insincere. But I will send all my best wishes and hopes, and cross my fingers that the grace of probability favours you and yours.
