Beautiful prayers everyone.
While our marriage and reconciliation is still a work in progress, God has been speaking to me clearly about walking truly in forgiveness.
It is forgiveness that marks us truly as His. We are loved completely, and completely forgiven ... so we cannot hold that back from anyone - even those who have hurt us deeply.
This is not a recipe for being a doormat. Forgiveness can be done while doing the 180 - it can be done even in the midst of divorce. Forgiveness bleeds away the bitterness and replaces it with His peace and love. A sure mark that forgiveness is working in your life is if you can pray for the one who hurt you so much, that they would know God's presence in their lives.
I wrote this short devotional for our Men's Prayer group today.
Forgiveness: the indispensable element in prayer
"And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins." – Mark 11:22-25
Forgiveness and prayer are inseparable.
Jesus makes this link in several places in scripture. Every Wednesday we prayer the Lord’s prayer, where He instructs us to ask "forgive us our sins, as we forgive those who sin against us."
But any even more powerful link is given in Mark 11, where Jesus teaches on the power of our prayers – when linked with forgiveness.
"Have faith in God, "Jesus answered. "Truly I tell you, if anyone says to this mountain, ‘Go, throw yourself into the sea,’ and does not doubt in their heart but believes that what they say will happen, it will be done for them. Therefore I tell you, whatever you ask for in prayer, believe that you have received it, and it will be yours. And when you stand praying, if you hold anything against anyone, forgive them, so that your Father in heaven may forgive you your sins." – Mark 11:22-25
When we forgive, we are most like Him, who loved and died for us and forgave us of all our sins.
We can’t hold unforgiveness in our hearts and expect God’s power and presence. Forgive, pray, and watch what only He can do!
Thank you Pippin, Shehawk and all who labor in prayer on this site.
A prayer:
Father, as we who are wounded walk in forgiveness, would you move in power to bring healing, reconciliation, correction where needed, peace - for all of us. I believe the Holy Spirit wants to sweep through our lives and fill us with love and power. We are more than conquerors in Christ! Thank you Lord! I pray for each and everyone on this site that you reveal yourself to them in new ways that they can experience your love, peace, and power. Amen.
